In June, our local coordinator, Bishnu, visited communities we support and identified five more children in need of financial assistance to continue their education. With strong ties to schools and community leaders, Bishnu is able to connect with families in need, and as our reputation grows, more stories are reaching us. Thanks to the dedication of our trustees and the generosity of our donors, we’re able to expand our support and help even more families.
We are always careful to ensure that the families we support are genuinely in need, and that the children are good students. It is important to us that they want to learn and to be at school. Some of our new students are very young and it is impossible to tell this at such a young age. As with all our students, we will be continually reviewing their support as they progress.
Here are some highlights from our new students.
Angela

Angela just started Grade 6. Sadly as her father has left them, her mother is not able to pay for her education. Currently Angela and her mother have no home of their own and are living with Angela’s grandparents. Angels works hard at school and as is typical at Sunrise School, is taught many of her classes in English.

Samir
This is Samir who is in the nursery class of Sunrise Boarding School. He won’t start Grade 1 for another three years, but without our help he would not be able to go to nursery. Sadly his father was in a fatal accident at work last year, and his mother is struggling to support her family. She is currently working both on farms and in construction as a daily labourer to have a small income. We hope to be able to suport Samir for the long term.

Akirti

Akirti is in Grade 9 at Sunrise Boarding School. She and her mother and elder sister are living with her Grandmother after they also lost her father. They have a milking cow which provides some income. Akirti is a very keen student and is currently in 12th position in her class of 150. With your help, we hope to be able to help her complete her studies.

Reeja
Reeja is in Grade 9 at Hemja English School. She is in the top ten in her class, but her family has recently been helped by the school as they cannot afford to pay the school fees in full. Her father suffers from hearing loss and is now unable to work. Her mother, Bimala, now also has health issues which are limiting her ability to provide an income.

Ranjita
Ranjita is in Grade 10 at Sunrise Boarding School. We have been supporting her brother Ranjit for some years now. Previously, their mother was able to pay for the education of Ranjita. However on his recent visit, Bishnu was made aware by the school that this is no longer the case. The school have been part funding Ranjita and are not able to keep doing that. So we are delighted to be in a position now to be able to help this family and provide fuding for both the children to finish school.

We have a number of other projects in progress which we will be posting updates on soon. We are also currently looking for corporate sponsors for specific funding requirements we have. If you or anyone you know might be able to help please get in touch through the website or email: caroline@peakeducationnepal.com
Please share this update with anyone who might be interested in education of children in Nepal. Thank you so much for your ongoing support.
